Be Heart Smart
Our industry is disproportionately affected by heart disease. Not only is our line of work mentally and physically demanding, but our work environments and craftworkers themselves are ripe with bad health habits. When you look at bad habits compared to key risk factors for cardiovascular disease, it becomes clear. There is a problem.
What is an Industrial Athlete? Craftworkers are!
We use our bodies to make a living, just as an athlete does. And just as athletes need to take care of their bodies to perform at their optimum level, we need to start thinking about ourselves in the same way.
Industrial athletes need to focus on four key areas:
- Managing Blood Pressure (Half of Americans have some form of high blood pressure and don’t even know it!)
- Improving Physical Activity (While our work is tiring, it doesn’t provide the cardio workout our heart needs to stay healthy)
- Reducing Sugar-Sweetened beverage consumption (Beverages are the #1 source of added sugar in American’s diets)
- Healthy Diet (Let’s admit it- roach coaches are not the epitome of healthy nutrition)
