Free Lunch & Learn Presentations for Customers
WBE offers a series of Lunch & Learn Presentations free of charge to WBE customers. One of the experts from our company -- Bob Bourdet (Electrical), Kevin Bradley (Telecom), and Mike Nann (Security) -- will come to your facility and conduct a one hour presentation and answer any questions you may have. Each of our speakers come with years of experience in their chosen field and can offer a wealth of knowledge to your group. We will also provide a gourmet lunch for all the staff that partakes in the class.

Brian Cronin of Novo construction wrote regarding Bob Bourdet’s electrical class, “Thank you very much for taking the time to present to us yesterday. We all felt that the information you provided and the way in which it was presented were equally helpful. You’re a great teacher Bob and we really appreciate your taking the time”.

Another Lunch & Learn participant wrote, "Bob did a fantastic job of presenting your capabilities to our staff. We had 18 people attend and you could tell from the questions they are an engaged group. Bob’s expertise was quite apparent and his presentation was informative for all levels of experience that we had in the room. I received very positive feedback and look forward to working with WBE in the future."

If you are interested in taking any of these 3 classes: Electrical, Telecom, or Security, please contact Blaine Clinton at Bclinton@wbeinc.com or 415-898-1400 to schedule a time. Again it is free of charge to WBE customers and our way of supporting you and saying thank you for the continued business relationship.

Bob Bourdet gives his electric presentation for the folks at Pankow (Oakland Office).

Projects currently underway for WBE customers

Goodwin Proctor – Electrical
Over in Menlo Park, our electrical division recently finished phase II of a project at the law offices of Goodwin Proctor. This 57,000 square foot building had multiple working areas that had to be renovated in phases since the building was still occupied at the time of construction. This was a design build project that included a Lutron Grafik Eye Dimming system and decorative, specialty custom fixtures.

Stanford LKSC – Telcom
Our telcom division is currently working on the new Li Ka Shing Medical building at Stanford University. This five-story building employs the latest technology in all areas. The telecommunications solution is the newest Levition/Essex category 6A 10G cable solution from end to end. There are over 2,800 cables going to 918 workstations. There are five IDFs and four racks per IDF with 50 pair per IDF and 100 to the new data center and immersive VR room. Audio Visual will be an integral part of this project. This facility will host the latest state of the art equipment, which is still in the design phase. Security is also a part of this contract as the team integrates the building system into the campus system.

News of note about upcoming jobs for WBE customers

Air-Blown Fiber
At the upcoming San Francisco General Hospital project, WBE Telcom will be installing a new style of fiber – air-blown fiber. Air-blown fiber is an infrastructure of compact tube cables used in place of traditional innerduct to form the LAN topology. The system provides empty tubes that can be used at any time, allowing for companies to save money because additional fiber does not need to be purchased until needed. Each tube cable holds up to 19 small individual tubes within a tough outer jacket for a maximum capacity of 456 fibers. Two 19-tube air-blown fiber cables yield 38 pathways within the same conduit space, whereas traditional cables yield only three.

Installation of the air-blown fiber is also more convenient. Using a cable blowing head, the fiber optic bundles are blown through tube cables on a stream of air or nitrogen gas at speeds up to 150 feet per minute. On average, 3000 feet of fiber can be blown in 30 minutes. Air-blown fiber makes changes easier as well. To change the configuration, fiber can be blown out of the tube and new fiber blown in. This allows for easier upgrades and expansions and faster network changes without going through all the hassle of pulling old fiber cables out and putting new ones in. With this new technology, network managers will have the freedom and control over network capacity, bandwidth requirements, planning and fast project turnaround.

Wall Street Journal Reports on Wells Fargo RFID Installation

RFID Installation at Wells Fargo
Radio frequency identification technology or RFID has recently garnered a lot of interest, especially in the area of inventory tracking and management. With the RFID devices, companies are now able to monitor their assets more efficiently. Recently, the Wall Street Journal featured an article describing how Wells Fargo & Co. uses RFID to monitor all the servers, storage drives, laptops and other equipment in some of its data centers, giving them an easier way to track and secure their gear. WBE was instrumental in this project installing the conduits, mounting the antennas, and installing power, coaxial cables and motion sensors. If anyone has interest in implementing this technology, we can advise on the electrical and telecom end.

Trying to ignore Social Media?

It just is not going away. What is all this fuss about Twitter, Facebook, and blogging? Isn’t this all hype, a fad for the young and will fade away tomorrow. If you’re a business it might be wise to look again.

Social Media is quickly emerging as an important marketing tool. It is a very inexpensive way to get your message out quickly to a large quantity of people. Advertising can be impersonal and expensive. It is more of a one-way communication in which you are talking at your customer not with your customer. Social media is different. It is more about building relationships. Communicating with your customer and getting immediate feedback about how they are feeling about you and what they want. Social media is growing at a phenomenal rate and will soon be emerging into a mainstream business tool.

Even if you choose not to be involved in social media you may be surprised that much may be being said about you in conversations on the internet. It is best to be on top of what is being communicated so if any misconceptions arise you can respond back. Checking sites such as twitter search or tweetscan will help you monitor customer blogs and opinions.

Here is a short list of ways in which social media can be a benefit to your business:

  1. It can generate exposure for your business and increase website traffic

  2. It can help you build new business partnerships

  3. It can be an opinion poll in which you gather immediate feedback from customers.

  4. Post important company events & accomplish-ments

  5. Showcase new products or services

  6. Monitor favorable and negative remarks
